This color atlas is the result of hard work by our Rajan Eye Care Ophthalmic Imaging team for the past 3 decades.
I dedicate this book to my late parents, Prof Dr N Rajan,

my Guru & Mentor Dr S S Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya.
Contributors Foreword
It is indeed my pleasure to write this foreword for an Atlas of medical retinal disorders that is brought out by Rajan Eye Care Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The authors have collected a wide variety of fundus photographs and angiograms representing the most commonly seen retinal pathology. The book serves as a good introduction to fundus pathology for the residents. This atlas aims to cover medical retinal disorders and hence has avoided surgical retinal topics. Each topic is introduced by a paragraph of comprehensive and distilled information, followed by a series of good quality fundus photographs to demonstrate the important as well as subtle features. The book covers not only the common diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, etc. but also the relatively uncommon ones such as choroideremia. There is a separate section on pediatric retinal disorders which covers the common disorders such as retinopathy of prematurity, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy, colobomas etc.
The book not only serves as an excellent introduction to retinal disorders for the beginner ophthalmologist but also as quick reference tool for the practicing ophthalmologist. I commend the efforts of the authors for this excellent contribution to the ophthalmic literature.

Preface
Retinal imaging has advanced by leaps and bounds since the publication of the first retinal photographs by Jackman and Webster in 1886. With the emergence of smartphones and telecommunications, retinal imaging has made ophthalmic screening possible even in remote areas. The advances in fundus imaging are aimed at facilitating easy and timely fundus screening thereby decreasing preventable visual morbidity.
With this in mind, images that were acquired in the last three decades in Rajan Eye Care Hospital have been retrieved and compiled. This book consists of more than 500 archetypal images which have been categorized into fifteen chapters. The images are followed by a small snippet that highlights salient features of the disease entity. The unique feature of this atlas is that we have presented color fundus photographs with images of relevant investigations for each disease which gives a good overview thereby enabling the readers to diagnose these ocular conditions with ease.
We hope the book will be a ready reckoner for undergraduates, postgraduates, retina fellows, comprehensive ophthalmologists and ophthalmic photographers.
