The chapter begins with the anaesthetic methods–local and general–and the problems associated with them. Under minor surgery, foreign body removal, chalazion and pterygium are mentioned. For each one of these surgeries, the instrument preparation, the nurses’ duties and nursing care required are given. The major surgeries mentioned are cataract, glaucoma, and sac and eye ball removal. The steps are given. Complications of cataract surgery are mentioned. As a nurse has to have a thorough knowledge of sutures and suturing, these are also discussed in detail in the second half of the chapter. The type of needles used is also mentioned. This chapter is well illustrated.
