A Manual for Setting up Clinical Practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology is a challenge in itself. It is a sheer balance of clinical expertise, managerial capabilities, economics, legal boundaries and a social framework. All these aspects unfortunately are not provided for during the training of medical postgraduation.
Most of us start the journey completely naїve to the terrain. Few find mentors; some get in already set enterprise but there are many who start anew with no one to guide. The concept of this book is a result of this felt need of a beginner in the subject of obstetrics and gynecology. Everybody wants to start an ideal set-up to provide proper care. But lack of guidance or literature on setting up new practice makes one wary. This book, therefore, is a compilation of what all is needed before we get set go and start.
It could be a small private unit or a part of a larger organization or service unit, all the necessary information has been put together in the book. The contributing authors are well-known stalwarts in their respective fields who have reached their statures through hardships and endurance. Their experiences have resulted in the creation of the book.
Be it a basic medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) center, ultrasonography clinic or an endoscopy center we need to know the basic information on which we can base our planning. We need to know not only the basic necessities but also the legal issues, licensing, etc. involved. An attempt has been made through this manual to depict this as much as is possible.
Today every service needs to be accredited and so is the health care delivery system. There is a chapter on this 12particular topic which is going to be much informative. Also the economics have to be viable and many doctors are blissfully ignorant regarding this. There is a practical chapter on the same to help guide the beginner through this. Ideal documentation is the mainstay of practice in this era which is not forgotten by editors.
Also we need to have a compassionate approach towards our patients and a spiritual look out towards the profession. We cannot forget that we actually are participants in the process of healing. This holistic approach too is touched upon in the book.
Really, the book is not only for beginners but it is like a lamp-post also for even established practitioners.
The editors consist of representatives from all the three current active generations in practice. The wise chief editor, a true maestro in the field and two assistant editors eager to bring out as much can be delivered. We hope an enriching experience in reaching the unreached subject, to the reader.
