5With humility and reverence, this book is dedicated at the lotus feet of the Holy Mother,
Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi
“Today's world needs people who express goodness in their words and deeds. If such noble role models set the example for their fellow beings, the darkness prevailing in today's society will be dispelled, and the light of peace and non-violence will once again illumine this earth. Let us work together towards this goal”.
Mata Amritanandamayi Devi6
7Preface
We are glad to observe the growth of the Textbook of Biochemistry for Medical Students, which was in the market for more than 14 years. In retrospect, we may state that the medical community has warmly received the successive editions of that book. It gives immense satisfaction to note that the book served the students immensely, and has now become a standard textbook used in various medical colleges of India as well as abroad.
The Textbook of Biochemistry was intended to give a broad survey of all aspects of Biochemistry, and aimed for the use of the first year MBBS students. Many of those students who have already become practicing doctors have put forward the request that a book on clinical biochemistry is needed. Although the clinical biochemistry topics have been dealt with in the textbook, it was rather in a rudimentary style and useful only for the primary level. There is certainly a need for a higher level textbook, dealing specially on the clinical applications of laboratory medicine. Considering all these aspects, this book, Clinical Chemistry Made Easy is written.
It is assumed that the reader has some background knowlege of basic biochemistry. This book is aimed to help the practicing doctors. The management of a patient needs the team work of doctor, nurse, pharmacist and laboratory personnel. The diagnosis, nowadays, is heavily dependent on laboratory results. Therefore, it is absolutely essential for a clinician to have a wide knowledge of clinical chemistry. 8However, most of the practicing doctors do not get the time to go through the volumes of clinical chemistry publications released during the recent years. This book gives the overview of basics as well as advances in a summarized form, so that busy physicians can get the idea, without going through unnecessary details. The whole book is written in a practical-oriented manner.
For the continuation of the textbooks, it is necessary to induct young blood into the editorial group. In this connection, we were lucky to introduce two young but active academicians into this task.
The remarkable success of the Textbook of Biochemistry for Medical Students was due to the active support of the publishers. This is to record our appreciation for the cooperation extended by Shri Jitendar P Vij (Chairman and Managing Director) M/s Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd. and his associates. We hope that this Clinical Chemistry Made Easy will also serve the medical community in the ensuing years.
