FOREWORD
The contemporary context of health care is challenging for health professionals and consumers. The diagnostic and treatment strategies in Menopausal Medicine, especially in Hormone Replacement Therapy, are conflicting and not straightforward. Hence, a clear approach to its management is not identified. Within this problem of conflicting agendas, the physician has to not only stay current on the various topics related to post-reproductive health, but also be cognizant of the multiple issues that accompany it.
In such a challenging context, the editors and contributors of this book advance a model of well-researched subject with a wealth of information on managing menopause and the advances in medical and surgical management in a very simple manner.
There is a flood of studies dealing with various aspects of menopause in the scientific literature today. Gathering the latest evidence in each area and putting it together in a very readable format has been the task of every author who has contributed to this book.
This book will be an invaluable resource not only to gynecologists but also to postgraduate students and physicians involved in women’s health. It will help to gain an understanding of women’s health and to learn practical strategies of management and to identify areas of research.
We do hope this book promotes vigorous debate and discussion and stimulates further research to refine our knowledge on this subject. A book on menopause should not include only the phase of menopause and its symptomatology but should also dwell on the long-term health issues associated with it. By taking adequate care and preventive measures, women beyond their reproductive years could enjoy a better quality of life. This book promises to do so.

PREFACE
Gone are the days when menopausal symptoms were not given much importance. The scenario has changed today. Increasing longevity, better quality of life, and expanding knowledge have brought menopause very much into focus. Women experience many problems during transition phase. They could be short term and long term. With increasing numbers of trials, we are better guided regarding the presentation and management of menopausal symptoms. Menopause has achieved a greater significance in the 21st century.
It is a high time that every gynecologist should understand the word “Menopause”, its presentations, implications in various ways and how to deal with them. This book has been aimed to understand and simplify different problems in peri- and postmenopausal period. It is meant especially for busy gynecologists to boost up their knowledge and confidence in the subject, so that subsequently they can help and guide the menopausal women in a better way. Thus, this book serves as a ready reckoner for practitioners. The individual author has worked very hard in writing the chapter with his/her knowledge, experience and appropriate references, compiling it with proper flowcharts.
We thank the authors wholeheartedly for their hard work and sparing time from their busy schedule. Great efforts have been taken by all to simplify the difficult and complicated topic. As it is said human menopause remains an evolutionary puzzle, authors have tried to solve this puzzle in their own capacity.
Change is the law of life, challenge is the aim of life
We have to challenge the changes, not change the challenge.
