FM5Foreword
It is important for the nurse to recognize the great development in child care in the country. Such an understanding is essential not only for the nurse as a professional caregiver but also for a parent and community member, which helps in recognition and appreciation of children as unique individuals with special needs and qualities. The term holism is applicable to our perception of children. It is important to consider the child as composed of physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual natures, and to relate the child as a whole or biopsychosocial individual. As a result of this thought, child care has been shifted from treatment of diseases to prevention of diseases and promotion of health. Nurses are no longer solely involved in the episodic care of children during an acute illness. They are increasingly responsible for providing comprehensive and distributive care that attempts to meet the needs of children and their families.
The presentation of this book, Advanced Critical Care in Medical, Surgical and Neonatal Nursing, is with practical procedures for Post Basic BSc Nursing, which includes modern concept of child health care, healthy child, nursing care of neonate, nursing management of common childhood diseases, and also the practicum is formulated. The content of this book will be a great resource for both nurse educators and students, in an effective manner to teach and learn better by utilizing information.
I recommend this book to be used for Post Basic BSc Nursing as well as nurse educators; should be a reference book for every student and teacher.
I congratulate the author who has brought together the most important ideas from the old and new nursing principles under one roof of advanced critical care.

FM7Preface
It gives us great pleasure and satisfaction to introduce the first edition of Advanced Critical Care in Medical, Surgical and Neonatal Nursing to Post Basic BSc Nursing students and teachers, and nursing community. In offering this title, we remain grateful to readers, specially nursing teachers, who supported our books such as Foundations of Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing for General Nursing and Midwifery, Intravenous Therapy for Nurses, Perioperative Nursing Manual, Clinical Practice Dairy, Cumulative Record of Clinical Learning Experience for Post Basic BSc Nursing and A to Z Guideline Manual in Nursing Performance Evaluation Tool (for Practitioners and Students).
One of the ways to improve quality of care could be use of new technology to manage complex health issues of children. Health promotion depends on development of new health policy and the responsibility of healthcare providers, especially nurses who involve in educating the community on lifestyle, prevention of disease and health promotion, particularly the child health.
This first edition deals with modern concept of child health care, healthy child, nursing care of neonate, nursing management of common childhood diseases and surgical aspects, including the practicum formulated. This book has been written as a basic textbook for Post Basic BSc Nursing students. We hope that the content of this textbook will help students and educators in providing guidance; as a result, future nurses achieve the goal of the profession.
Our sincere thought—if the nursing teachers, students and other healthcare personnel apply scientific principles, which are described in this book, our hard work will be recognized. We sincerely welcome constructive criticism from readers that will help us to enrich our knowledge to contribute more to the profession.
