Abstract

Objectives-To find out the effectiveness of foot reflexology on psychological symptoms among patients with cancer. Method-Experimental research design with pre and post test control group design. Result-In the control group mean and standard deviation of psychological symptoms before foot reflexology (54.5 + 6.8, 23.6 + 2.6) and in post test (54.2 + 6.7, 23.5 + 2.6) and z test value (−0.345, −0.575). Conclusion-The mean and standard deviation of psychological symptom anxiety and depression of patient with cancer before foot reflexology was (51.0 + 6.6, 26.1 + 4.0) respectively and after foot reflexology was (42.0 + 4.53, 16.5 + 3.2) and z test value −3.792, −3.928 in experimental group. While comparing the pre test score to post test score there was a reduction of score in post test so it was very highly significant (P<0.001).

Methods: Pre-experimental with One group pre-test - post-test design was adopted for the study. Result: The Study finding showed that 72% of them had inadequate knowledge, 28% of them had moderately adequate knowledge and none of them had adequate knowledge about the cervical cancer and its preventive measures in the pretest. During post test no one had inadequate knowledge, 21.2% of them had moderately adequate knowledge and 78.8% of them had adequate knowledge about the cervical cancer and its preventive measures. Conclusion: The present study reveals that the proper video assisted teaching programme on cervical cancer and its preventive measures surely improves the knowledge on cervical cancer and its preventive measures which will prevent the early complications among reproductive age group women.

Abstract

Objectives: The main aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of deep breathing exercise with incentive Spirometer on the respiratory status of patients who have undergone cardio thoracic and vascular surgery in selected hospitals of Puducherry. Methods: Research design used for the study was quasi experimental one group pre-test post-test design. The study was conducted on 30 patients who have undergone cardio thoracic and vascular surgery at Cardio Thoracic and Vascular wards of Mahatma Gandhi medical College and Research Institute (MGMC&RI), Puducherry and A G Padmavathy hospital, Puducherry. Stratified random sampling technique was used. Data collection tool consisted of demographic variables and assessment of respiratory status using Respiratory Rate, Modified Borg Dyspnea Scale, Peak Flow Meter and Pulseoxymeter. Data were collected by pre assessment questionnaire and observation method. The collected data was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The result showed that deep breathing exercise with incentive spirometer was highly effective among patients who have undergone cardio thoracic and vascular surgery. The obtained P-value 0.000 was highly significant at p <0.001% level. Conclusion: The respiratory complications are the major post-operative complications which reduce the projected outcome of most of the cardio thoracic and vascular surgeries. This study reveals that deep breathing exercise with incentive spirometer can improve the respiratory status of the patients who have undergone cardio thoracic vascular surgery to a great extent.

[Year:2017] [Month:Sep-Dec] [Volume:10] [Number:3] [Pages:6] [Pages No:15 - 20]

Keywords: Anterior cruciate ligament, Injuries, Risk factors, Anthropometry

DOI: 10.5005/pjn-10-3-15  |  Open Access |  How to cite  |

Abstract

Objectives: To determine the relationship between morphometric parameters of intercondylar notch width (ICW) and the intercondylar height (ICH) with ACL measures of patients having ACL & Non ACL tear. Methods: The study included in experimental group 60 subjects with ACL injury and in Control group 51 subjects with no ACL injury. Experimental group subjects had the diagnosis of ACL rupture and the control group subjects had the diagnosis of Patellofemoral pain but no ACL lesion. The groups were matched on the basis of age and gender. Measurements were carried out using magnetic resonance imaging. (MRI) to analyze the morphometric parameters of ACL injured and Non ACL injured. Result: There is no significant difference found between the ACL and non ACL group based on their age, in contrast to gender as there was a significant difference at 0.00 level. Conclusions: Based on the findings of the study, it is concluded that aintercondylar notch morphometric factor may lead to rupture of the ACL.

Keywords: Tuberculosis, Sustainable Development Goals and Tuberculosis strategy

DOI: 10.5005/pjn-10-3-31  |  Open Access |  How to cite  |

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) that most often affect the lungs. People infected with TB bacteria have a 10% lifetime risk of falling ill with TB. Tuberculosis (TB) is a top infectious disease killer worldwide. Over 95% of TB deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, and it is among the top 5 causes of death for women aged 15 to 44.1 Transforming our world: the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. It outlines global impact targets to reduce TB deaths by 90% and to cut new cases by 80% between 2015 and 2030, and to ensure that no family is burdened with catastrophic costs due to TB. WHO has gone one step further and set a 2035 target of 95% reduction in deaths and a 90% decline in TB incidence - similar to current levels in low TB incidence countries today2. SDGs and End TB Strategy implementation will require very active engagement of all sectors and partners, from the highest level government officials to civil society. The ultimate goal of TB elimination requires that appropriate interventions are implemented everywhere and the underlying drivers are not only addressed, but sustainably addressed3.
