Abstract

Background: Adolescence is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), as the time span between the ages of 10 and 19 years. This is the “transitional period” between childhood and maturity. Major psychological, behavioral, and physical changes occur throughout this period; adolescence necessitates higher dietary requirements due to increased physical activity and fast growth. Aims and objectives: To assess the pretest and posttest hemoglobin levels among the adolescent girls, to evaluate the effectiveness of fenugreek leaf powder with iron supplementation on anemia among adolescent girls. To compare the pretest and posttest hemoglobin levels among the adolescent girls in experimental and control group. To find out the association between hemoglobin level with selected demographic variables among the adolescent girls. Materials and methods: The study used a two-group experimental pretest and posttest design. The sample of 60 adolescent girls was chosen using a random sampling procedure. The hemoglobin level was measured using a structured questionnaire and the mission Hb device. Results: The study found a statistically significant difference between the effects of fenugreek leaf powder combined with iron supplementation vs iron supplementation alone on boosting hemoglobin levels in adolescent females with anemia in the control group. Conclusion: The comparative study reveals that fenugreek leaf powder with iron supplementation is more effective than the iron supplementation alone on increasing the hemoglobin level among adolescent girls.

Usability Testing of 7 As for Assessment and Management of Head Injury: A Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College Model among Staff Nurses Working in Emergency Medical Services, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Puducherry—An Exploratory Research

Abstract

A head injury, also known as a traumatic brain injury, is an injury to the head caused by blunt trauma, acceleration, or deceleration forces that cause one or more of the following symptoms: any time when you are confused, disoriented, or have a loss of consciousness, any memory problems around the time of the accident, a loss of consciousness that lasts shorter than 30 minutes, and the development of neurological or neuropsychological abnormalities. In order to move to the next level of care and handling the patients, nurses must assess head injury patients in an emergency room. Objectives: The objective of the study was to test the usability of 7 As for assessment and management of head injury—a Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College (KGNC) model among staff nurses working in Emergency Medical Services. Materials and methods: Quantitative research approach was used for this study. One group pretest and posttest design was adopted for the study. Forty samples were selected by using purposive sampling method. Demographic variables of the staff nurses were collected using structured questionnaire and designed model was represented in the form of poster and will be displayed on Emergency Medical Service (EMS) walls before the data collection. Posttest was conducted using structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics like frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Mann–Whitney test, and Chi-square test. Results: Among them, 32 (80%) belonged to 21–25 years, 7 (17.5%) were between 26 and 30 years, and only 1 (2.5%) was between 31 and 40 years. The analysis of gender shows that 9 (22.5%) of them were males and 31 (77.5%) of them were females. The analysis of education shows that all of them (40 subjects) (100%) completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing). The analysis of years of experience shows that 5 (12.5%) of them have 0–1 year, 32 (80%) of them have 1–3 years, 3 (7.5%) of them had 4–8 years of experience, and none of them has more than 9 years. In the level of usability of 7 As on assessment of head injury among staff nurses out of 40 samples, 22 (55%) of nurses were in category of Easy to Practice, 17 (42.5%) of nurses were in the level of Able to Practice, and only one good in procedures and no one felt had to practice. Conclusion: The nurse working in clinical setting can use this assessment method in an easy way to assess and diagnose the severity of illness. The staff nurses can use this in their clinical practice. The study findings create empirical evidence to improve the quality of nursing care in terms of patient safety, time-consuming, cost-effectiveness, and preventable damage, and it can use in all the wards of the hospitals and also in home setup during rehabilitation.

Assessment of the Effectiveness of Multicomponent Nursing Care on Pin-site Infection among Patients with External Fixators in Ortho Wards of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute

Abstract

The most prevalent external fixator consequence is pin-site infection. Pin-site infections increase the frequency of hospital visits needed during a patient's therapy and may necessitate extra treatment, such as antibiotics and surgery. In comparison with other series from affluent and developing nations, there is a significant frequency of pin-tract infections after external fixation for fracture. Aims and objectives: • To assess the pin-site infection among patients with external fixators. • To evaluate the effectiveness of multicomponent nursing care on pin-site infection among patients with external fixators. • To find out the association between multicomponent nursing care on pin-site infection among patients with external fixators and their selected demographic variables. Materials and methods: This study took a quantitative research technique. This study used a two-group pretest and posttest design. Using a simple random sampling procedure, 60 samples were selected and divided into two groups. Pretest and posttest use Checketts and Otterburn grading system, as well as an assessment of pin-site infection. On pin-site infection among patients with external fixators and their specified demographic factors, multicomponent nursing care was given to experimental group I and routine care was given to control group II. Results: According to the data of the 60 participants in group I (experimental), 26 (86.7%) had no pin-site infection, while 4 (13.3%) had minor pin-site infection, and 0 (0%) had major pin-site infection of external fixators. In group II (control), 2 (6.7%) had no pin-site infection 28 (93.3%) had minor pin-site infection and 0 (0%) had major pin-site were having minor pin-site infection. And the p-value of 0.005* indicates that the result is statistically significant. As a result, H1 and H2 were accepted. In patients with external fixators, the effectiveness of multicomponent nursing care on pin-site infection is reduced.

Abstract

Synbiotics are the combination of prebiotic and probiotic which helps to maintain health and contracting diseases. Synbiotics will have living microorganisms, which helps to boost the gut bacteria. It has many health benefits like maintenance of gut health by improving gut bacteria and it will reduce intestinal problems such as gastrointestinal flora, diarrhea, and constipation. It enhances the overall efficacy against gastrointestinal (GI) pathogens. Other than GI system, synbiotics are aids in the treatment of nongastrointestinal diseases such as prevention of osteoporosis, regulation of immune system, and curing brain dysfunction, with the help of its antimicrobial, anticarcinogenic, antidiarrheal, and antiallergenic effects.

Bowen Therapy: An Overview

Abstract

In Geelong, Victoria, Australia, Thomas A Bowen (1916–1982) developed this technique after serving in the military during World War II. He began to notice that certain physical movements of the body had a particular impact on a person's health. Unlike any other form of therapy or discipline, the Bowen technique was developed by its creator without any prior training. According to him, his work was a “simple gift from God.” A system such as the one used today was developed over the course of several years. A government inquiry into alternative health professionals in 1975 confirmed that Bowen was extremely busy in his clinic. A study reporting Bowen's annual patient count of 13,000 was conducted over the course of 27 weeks. That was an amazing number of clients per year considering sessions were only 7 days apart and most people needed as little as two or three sessions.1

Abstract

Ryaltris is a metered, fixed-dose, prescribing nasal spray that delivers 665 µg of olopatadine hydrochloride, an antihistamine, and 25 µg of mometasone furoate monohydrate, a corticosteroid, in each spray. Ryaltris (olopatadine hydrochloride, mometasone furoate monohydrate) nasal spray has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for patients with 12 years and above for the treatment of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR).

Abstract

Nursing takes pride in being by the client's area in the period of need, whether in the hospital or in the community. The social agreement is based on a connection for providing holistic care during the care continuum. Therefore, health care professionals must educate and prepare themselves to adapt to the latest diagnosis and drug delivery system technology. Nanotechnology is one of the leading technologies which provide sensing technology and miniature devices to accurately and quickly diagnose disease. Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary research discipline that uses biology, chemistry, and engineering to improve the quality of life through disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment at an early stage. This article aims to keep nurses up-to-date on nanotechnology in diabetes mellitus (DM) and how to use it in their practice to improve the quality of nursing care.
