About Video

The technique of aural polypectomy is demonstrated in this video. Utmost care should be taken not to avulse the polyp keeping in mind the fact that it may arise from or be adherent to vital structures in the tympanic cavity. All excised tissues must be sent for histopathological assessment. It is equally important to perform a detailed microscopic evaluation of the tympanic membrane and any other exposed structures of the middle ear so as to understand the nature of the disease, and obtain any additional information about the origin of the polyp as well as the status of the middle ear contents, since a majority of aural polyps are associated with complications of CSOM. In the authors’ experience, it is advisable to perform a high resolution CT scan of the temporal bone in such patients.
