About Video

In this video, the author has demonstrated a type III thyroplasty for voice restoration after a laryngofissure cordectomy. This procedure can be performed after the resection of a glottic carcinoma via the laryngofissure in the same stage. After confirming the adequacy of the oncological margins, by a frozen section study, a contralateral type III thyroplasty is performed. In the authors’ experience, this procedure has been associated with comparable voice outcome. In their experience, performing a medialization procedure after a vocal cordectomy on the same side has proved challenging due to the loss of paraglottic tissue. Performing a procedure on the contralateral side in the same sitting has the added advantage of a single-staged procedure, besides having a comparable vocal outcome.
