About Video

This video demonstrates a modification of the technique initially described by Professor Raghav Sharan for the treatment of atrophic rhinitis. The maxillary sinus mucosa is delivered into the nasal cavity via the ostium after performing an uncinectomy, and secured to the nasal septum, to create a ‘neoturbinate’. This achieves a reduction of the nasal airspace without any cosmetic compromise, as well as increases the nasal secretions, thus helping in reverting the changes brought about by atrophic rhinitis. The video also demonstrates the improvement in the condition of the nasal mucosa after surgery, showing the efficacy of this treatment modality. The challenging part of the technique lies in elevating and delivering the mucosa out of the sinus without damage, but once mastered, can yield wonderful results for this otherwise obstinate condition to treat. It is recommended that the nasal cavity be prepared prior to performing this procedure so as to ensure a successful outcome.
