About Video

This video shows a case study of woman diagnosed for shoulder dystocia. Shoulder dystocia can be defined as the inability to deliver the fetal shoulders after the delivery of fetal head without the aid of specific maneuvers. It usually results when the diameter of fetal shoulders is relatively larger than the biparietal diameter. History of presenting complaints, obstetric history and medical history of that woman are provided along with different clinical examinations. The likely cause of shoulder dystocia in this case appeared to be fetal macrosomia as a result of gestational diabetes. Immediately after recognition of shoulder dystocia, additional help should be summoned immediately because the shoulder needs to be delivered within 5–7 minutes of delivery of fetal head. In this case, suprapubic pressure in conjunction with McRoberts maneuver is sufficient to dislodge the fetal shoulders and facilitate the delivery.
