Tips & Tricks in Operative Obstetrics & Gynecology
by Richa SaxenaThis video shows a case study of woman presenting fibroid uterus. It is a noncancerous growth that develops in or just outside a woman's uterus. History of presenting complains and past history of that woman are provided along with different clinical examinations such as general physical examination, per abdominal examination, per speculum examination and pelvic examination. Transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound in this patient shows a submucous fibroid measuring about 4 mm in diameter protruding inside the endometrial cavity. Saline infusion sonography (SIS) has been demonstrated to cause improved evaluation of the endometrial cavity and assessment of tubal patency. It also helps in differentiating between submucosal myomas and endometrial polyps. This video demonstrates the procedure of SIS. Hysteroscopic examination helps in diagnosing endometrial masses. Hysteroscopic myomectomy appears to be the best treatment option in this case. Demonstration of hysteroscopic fibroid resection is also presented in this video.
