About Video

This video shows a case study of woman presenting cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), which is a preferential term for carcinoma in situ (CIS). CIN is defined as a premalignant condition of the uterine cervix that arises from the area of metaplasia in the transformation zone at the squamocolumnar junction. History of presenting complains, sexual history, past gynecological history and menstrual history of that woman are provided along with different clinical examinations. A Pap smear must be done at the time, when the patient is not actively bleeding. Cervical punch biopsy must be immediately performed, only if any locally visible lesion on the cervix is seen. In this case, Pap smear result is suggestive of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), this must be followed-up by colposcopy/colposcopic-directed biopsy and endocervical curettage. In this case, cryotheraphy/laser vaporization, loop excision and cone biopsy are the options which can be followed for the treatment. Demonstration of loop excision of the transformation zone is also shown in this video.
