About Video

This video clip depicts two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography. Metallic mitral prosthesis. Arrows point to acoustic shadowing produced by the metallic components of the prosthetic mitral valve (MVR). Reverberations (R) significantly obscure the left atrium because the ultrasound beam encounters the prosthesis first and then the left atrium. (LA: Left atrium; LV: Left ventricle; RA: Right atrium; RV: Right ventricle).
