About Video

This recording is taken from a 63-year-old man with hypertensive heart disease. The recording is from the 2nd right interspace. The S2 appears to be loud and accentuated due to the accentuated A2 component. In the recording from the 2nd right interspace, the S2 also sounds somewhat tambourish in quality. Tambour is a one sided hand drum. The high pressure in the aorta seen in systemic hypertension during closure of the aortic valve contributes to the increased intensity and the musical quality of the A2.
