About Video

This recording is from a patient taken at the apex area. One can hear a loud systolic murmur, lasting throughout systole. One cannot hear the S2 clearly. The rhythm is irregular due to two premature beats followed by a compensatory pause. The murmur remains relatively the same in loudness following the pause. This confirms that the murmur is regurgitant in type. This patient had moderate to severe degree of mitral regurgitation. The murmur is loud and somewhat harsh and appears to have mixed frequencies. Both the S1 and the S2 are not clearly audible. The murmur completely envelops the S2. But the behavior of the murmur following the compensatory pause after the premature beats however reveal the nature of the lesion.
