About Video

This video contain simultaneous recording of echo image and phono recordings. Since the phono was made at the same time as the ultrasound was being recorded, there is some background noise which could not be eliminated. Please adjust the audio volume for comfort while listening to these files. Mitral valve prolapse: The recording is from a patient with mitral valve prolapse with a systolic regurgitant murmur with late systolic accentuation or crescendo effect. The 2 D echo image is taken from the apical long axis of the left ventricle. One can recognize the calcific posterior mitral annulus. The two leaflets of the mitral valve are easily seen. The posterior mitral leaflet scallop is seen to bulge into the left atrium during systole. The leaflet is hooded and redundant. The color flow mapping shows moderate amount of mitral regurgitation with two distinct jets one anteriorly and one posteriorly directed into the left atrium. In the simultaneous audio of the phono recording, one can hear the regurgitant systolic murmur, which has a late systolic crescendo effect. The murmur is clearly seen to occur at the time of the turbulence due to mitral regurgitation seen on the color flow.
