About Video

This video demonstrates a case of laparoscopy appendicectomy. Veress needle is introduced by making a small 1 cm incision in subumbilical region. Second port is in the right iliac fossa, which is a 10 mm port. This port is also used for retrieval of the appendix. Third port is in left iliac fossa and is 5 mm in diameter. Some surgeons put third port in suprapubic region in the midline, by doing this there is danger of injuring the bladder if it is full, and also by putting the port in left iliac fossa it is easy to handle the instrument. Laparoscopic appendectomy for complicated appendicitis is feasible and safe. It is associated with a significantly shorter operative time, lower incidence of wound infection and reduced length of hospital stay.
