About Video

This video describe the technique of fine needle aspiration (FNA). This minimally invasive technique involves collecting cells with a small gauge needle from palpable nodules. The mass can be from the breast, thyroid, lymph nodes, salivary glands and subcutaneous tissue. Cytology is then used to confirm benign versus malignancy. Used for diagnostic and possibly therapeutic purposes as in with cyst aspirations. Procedure steps of fine needle aspiration advance the needle into the mass with the needle tip in the mass, aspirate, moving needle clockwise within the mass to obtain cells from multiple areas. Release suction pressure and withdraw the needle. Remove the needle from the syringe, attach needle to empty syringe and expel specimen from needle into container.
