About Video

This video describes the technique for punch biopsy. The suture placed after biopsy should allow the skin to close parallel to the line of least tension. Stretch the skin around the biopsy site with the thumb and index finger perpendicular to the line of least tension. When the skin relaxes after the biopsy an elliptical-shaped wound remains in the same direction as the lines of least skin tension. Hold the instrument vertically over the skin and rotate downward with a twisting motion. Once the instrument is in the subcutaneous fat or to the hub, remove the instrument. Elevate the specimen with the tip of the needle and cut the specimen free with scissors below the dermis. Achieve hemostasis of the wound for simple oozing, the suture will be enough to achieve hemostasis. Apply antibiotic ointment and bandage.
