About Video

This video describe how dilation and curettage (D and C) is performed. Indications and complications for D and C procedure are describe in this video. Perform paracervical block—4-site: inject 5 mL at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock where cervix transitions to vaginal wall. Obtain information about the uterine size using a uterine sound. If the cervical os is not dilated use dilators. Choose suction curette based on uterine size from bimanual exam. Insert the cervical curette into the cervix with suction valve off. Turn on suction and rotate curette 360 degrees inside the uterus continuously until there is no more aspirate—remove suction curette without touching vaginal walls. May perform sharp endometrial curettage. Remove tenaculum, stop bleeding with gauze or silver nitrate sticks. Remove speculum.
