Comprehensive Textbook of Echocardiography
by Navin C NandaThis video clip showing transpharyngeal echocardiographic examination of right-sided carotid arteries. The right common carotid artery (RCC) bifurcates into right internal (RIC) and right external (REC) branches. Color Doppler-guided pulsed Doppler interrogation of the RIC shows prominent antegrade systolic and diastolic flow signals, while interrogation of the REC shows much less prominent antegrade diastolic signals. Note the parallel alignment of the Doppler cursor line to flow direction in RIC. Pulsed Doppler interrogation of the right internal jugular vein (V) demonstrates flow signals typical of venous flow.
