About Video

This video describes the operating room set-up. An organized and well-equipped operating room (OR) is essential for successful laparoscopy and hysteroscopy procedures. The surgical team and the operating team staff should be familiar with each and every instrumentation and have familiar places in the operating room. The surgeon is ultimately responsible for the proper functioning of not only all the instrumentation and the equipment, but also the positioning in the operating room for optimal efficiency and safety. Remember, consistency saves lives and inconsistency kills! It is imperative that the instruments and equipments be checked periodically for deficiencies to prevent inadverent accidents. Prefabricated modular operation theaters are preferred over the older OR suites for laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. As the armamentarium of instruments and equipment has grown, the surgeon has been facing with the task of dealing with multiple devices. Leading endoscopic equipment and instrument manufacturers like Karl Storz (OR 1), Stryker (i-Suite), Wolf (CORE) and Olympus have developed integrated operating room system, which gives the surgeon the ability to control the equipment virtually, by “touch” technology or radio remote control. This gives control over the entire operating room including equipment, lighting, patient records, images and documents. These systems make-up for the total remodeling of the existing operation rooms. All equipment and lighting is ergonomically mounted from ceiling booms and equipment settings can be pre-customized to be readied for different surgeons and procedures as required. The modules are made of steel with sterile coatings to provide antibacterial, antifungal and antialgal features for long and safe run. The OR (operating room) is designed to have smooth surface (no visible joint). The absence of sharp edges prevents any chance of accumulation of stagnant air or build-up of contamination. OR with laminar air flow, ceiling mounted pendants, theater control panel, seamless flooring, hermetically scaling sliding doors, X-ray viewing screen, scrub station, pressure stabilizers, electronic touch panel, etc. are the features of modern laparoscopic OR suite. No system is complete without digital imaging and data capture, which will allow images captured during operation to be accessed, edited, printed and saved on disk or video. Furthermore, the images can be used to create and print documents relevant to these operations and then downloaded into the hospital system and onto the surgeons PC or laptop. The data captured can also be transmitted to distant locations via high-band telephone lines or even to the internet. This enables the surgeon to transmit and become interactive within the hospital or even around the world. This facility is available at our center in India and also allows teleconferencing, telementoring and distant tutoring.
