Mirror movements are simultaneous contralateral, involuntary, identical movements that accompany voluntary movements (imitation synkinesis). It is normally present till early adolescence. Its persistence or acquisition in adult life are both pathological. It is produced due to concurrent activity within ipsilateral and contralateral corticospinal pathways. It is seen in skeletal developmental abnormalities of Atlanto-occipital region, X-linked Kallmann syndrome, thalamic lesions, extrapyramidal disorders, Friedreich’s ataxia, phenylketonuria, and hemiparetic limb.
