About Video

Amantadine is known to control levodopa-induced dyskinesia, at least for some time. After about a year, the effect wanes. This patient developed dyskinesia within months after initiation of levodopa therapy. She was previously treated with ropinirole and it has been reported that prior treatment with dopa-agonists prime the patient for such dyskinesia. It is postulated that levodopa-induced dyskinesia is mediated through the glutamate receptor and amantadine, being a glutamate-inhibitor, is effective. Development of such rashes on treatment with dopamine-agonists is known as ‘St. Anthony’s flare.’
