This young girl presented with jerky movements. What is the diagnosis? Myoclonus refers to a sudden, brief, jerky, involuntary muscle jerk, caused by abrupt muscle contraction in the case of positive myoclonus and sudden cessation of all ongoing muscular activity, as happens in case of negative myoclonus. Etiologically, myoclonus may be classified as physiological, essential, epileptic, symptomatic, or psychogenic. In terms of electrophysiology, it may be cortical, subcortical, spinal or peripheral in nature.
