Patients with Parkinson’s disease can have dystonic postures which often can be severe and painful in the morning in the feet. Rapid onset dystonia parkinsonism however, is a rare condition and these patients have difficulty in walking and dystonia affects the arms and legs, causing muscle cramps, though it starts in the face and proceeds downwards. It is inherited as an autosomal dominant condition and the mutation is in the ATP1A3 gene.
