This gait indicates weakness of proximal muscles of the lower limbs. In this condition, as the subject lifts one leg from the ground. The gluteal muscles are weak and therefore, the patient has to circumduct the affected lower limb as a compensatory mechanism. This is found in myopathies like, Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, congenital dysplasia of the hip, spinal muscular atrophy and physiologically, during pregnancy.
